Know you are not alone in this. My husband was Navy. We are loosing our home. They are useless. Won't help at all and the bank just sees the VA loan as a gold mine and won't even talk to us after two years of fighting with both. Our lawyer even said "the worst kind of mortgage is a VA mortgage because no one will work with you". We have three weeks to be out. We have 4 children still living with us. It's heartbreaking and no one cares. I've been screaming to everyone that I know the VA loans are the biggest scam. I keep reading online how they help everyone, I'd like to know who. Every time we have dealt with them they tell us the same thing - there's nothing they can do. It's horrible. Just horrible. My heart goes out to your family. I wish I could do more, but right now I can't even help myself.
Really, the VA will help, i really want to know who they are helping , maybe they are helping out them selfs, I am a combat veteran and just retired in dec. 2012 and have medical issues which are keeping me from work and I called the VA and they said there is nothing they can do. So now i am going into forecloser and there is no one that can help me, so me and the family will be on the street. I did try the Hope Now, what a joke all that they help you with is counseling 2 hours of it and in the end they tell me to sell the home before the forecloser, i want to keep it I have been there for 20 years. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HELP VA.
I read margi1's post and went to NACA's website, opened an account and made an appointment for the following day. I was told what documents I needed and set up a follow up appointment. NACA will deal directly with the bank. I was told that I should get a modification and an answer sooner than 30 days. This looks promising. This is a fee free service to me. NACA gets a fee from the bank once I make 3 months worth of on time payments. Check it out. I have read all the horror stories of people losing their homes getting the runaround from the bank. This service guarantees there will be no more runaround. Best of luck...
I have been reading some of the post you guys have put up. I have been through 4 years of pure torment trying to get chase to modify our loan. They had us on a "making homes affordable modification" at long last ,and after the 3 month trial period we got 2 letters. One stated that we did not make our payments and therefore we were kicked out of the program, the other said, congratulations you have successfully completed your trial period. I had already had so much frustration because we kept sending them paper work that they asked for and they kept saying that they did not receive it. So we sent our payments certified so they would have to sign for it. I sent them all the documentation and they just replied that just because I had the paperwork that it did not prove that they got the payment on time! Can you believe that?since then we have filled out so much paperwork over and over again and we have been almost foreclosed on 4 or 5 more times. The whole thing has taken 4 yrs. We were just offered a modification last Friday, of course they are going to tack on all the back payments and interest even if it was their fault that nothing was done sooner. The only advise I can give anyone is to not give up, call congressmen get in touch with a housing counselor anything to buy some time they will stall especially if you get your congressman in on it. Now don't get me wrong ,they will not stop it, it will just buy you some time. Then I signed up with NACA which is free. The only thing I can say about them is at least when you send in paperwork you send it to them, they will in turn send it to the mortgage company. That way they cannot deny that they have it. A big reason we got a modification, is because of the law handed down by the president where they made these mortgage companies pay people back for foreclosing on them. they also have new oversight for these companies so that if they don't give people modifications they will be penalized greatly especially if you are a vet or a service member. secondly, you can't just do nothing. I know how nerve racking it is. I started having strokes and I am disabled now, and I promise you Chase is largely at fault, but my husband is disabled from a gunshot wound to the head and it is hard for him to change his environment, else wise I would have happily moved out. I am sure that is what they wanted. Most of all pray, God is the only reason why we are still here. If you don't know him, now would be a good time. I hope this helps someone. Mike and Belinda
Disabled vet here that is going to loose his home. I as told pack your stuff and move. Thanks for helping after I devoted 17 years of my life serving my country.
I apologize if this same info has been shared. I did not read all comments.

The V.A. will only help you once. They will than tell you that you are on your own. It's a really bad feeling for US. We trust in the V.A. , Jag and the Army. But, they won't help you anymore.
My military base legal dept told us that SCRA is supposed to allow 9 months that a service member had following a deployment to not be foreclosed upon, that is 9 months following active duty deployment. That is incorrect that it only gives protection while you are on active duty, in plainly says, "or within 9 months after leaving active duty"
The new bill through Obama is now being called "Helping Heroes Keep Their Homes Act.
However it seems that most banks are not following it, that is why Chase just recently got sued over it.
It is section 533 of SCRA.
My husband just returned from Afghanistan. he was a reservist pulled for active duty and his job laid him off while he was deployed. Now he came back from overseas and unemployment is not enough for payment and our lender Calvet says their is not any protection for us to get on back on our feet and they want to foreclose.
I thought the SCRA would help us not to lose our home right away but it sounds like it doesn't really help people. Not sure what if anything I can do now. Anybody know about this?
